Lara Jean didn’t expect to really fall for Peter.
She and Peter were just pretending. Except suddenly they weren’t. Now Lara Jean is more confused than ever.

When another boy from her past returns to her life, Lara Jean’s feelings for him return too. Can a girl be in love with two boys at once?

In this charming and heartfelt sequel to the New York Times bestseller To All the Boys I've Loved Before, we see first love through the eyes of the unforgettable Lara Jean. Love is never easy, but maybe that’s part of what makes it so amazing.

 My Review

Warning: If you have not read the first book in this duo, you might not want to read this review.

When I first started blogging last year, To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han was one of the "it" books of the summer. At that point, I was already planning on reading it, and when I finally did, I fell for it. I fell hard. The book was actually one of the first books I reviewed on my blog, so it's very near and dear to me. It was just adorable. So when I found out that there would be a sequel, I was thrilled. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it, so here we are.

I know a lot of people complained about Lara Jean's immaturity in To All the Boys I've Loved Before, and I didn't really pick up on it then. There were some parts when I felt she was a bit immature, but in reality, teenagers are. It's in their nature. I caught glimpses of it in this book, but in my opinion, it's not really a maturity issue; Lara Jean is just naive. That naivety is what makes her a fun character to read about. It's truly a journey because you're experiencing everything in Lara Jean's life through an innocent person's eyes. She hasn't really had her heart broken, and she hasn't experienced a lot of things because she's protected herself. I can't say enough about how much I love Ms. Han for bringing Lara Jean into the world of YA. She's an incredible character.

I loved the plot of this book. It wasn't too much for a YA romance, but it was still wholly satisfying. It picks up right where To All the Boys I've Loved Before left off, and right away, things get started. Han doesn't really dilly-daddle around when it comes to fixing what happened at the Christmas party. She gets right to her point, and then she starts bringing in the more important pieces to the puzzle. For a book with a love triangle (I know, I know... some of you really hate them!), this one is realistic. Han doesn't have either character in the central relationship really deviate in a bad way. Things just happen very realistically.

The one thing that did bother me about P.S. I Still Love You was the amount of typos. I don't know if this one was rushed through the publication process, but it could have used another once-over by an editor. Some of the errors had me rereading sections just to make sure that I read it right or so that I could understand the meaning. They didn't really take away from the meaning of the book, but the errors did interrupt the flow.

P.S. I Still Love You is another wonderful book by Ms. Han. If you've already read and enjoyed To All the Boys I've Loved Before and haven't picked this one up yet, do so now! You'll be just as entranced as you were with the first one. If you have not read the first one, but stuck around to read this review, give this little series a chance. The books are cute and adorable, but they're not as fluffy as you might think.

  2. I'm so glad that you're excited. It was one of my more anticipated releases this year, so I read it as soon as I got it, even bumping it ahead of 2015 releases I still haven't gotten to! It was just perfect.

    Thanks, Grace!

  4. Awe! Thank you, Monica!

And if you wanted to read it, I'd say you're safe. I don't post spoilers in my reviews - I just put the warning there in case I alluded to something that happened in the first book. But I completely understand. I'm always so careful about reading reviews for a book I'm planning on reading.

I hope you come back when you read it so we can chat! :)

  5. I love what you said about being naive/immature. I had something similar in my review because so many people said with the first book that Lara Jean was too immature for them. I didn't notice it that much, but it seemed a bit more obvious in the second book. I couldn't tell if it was just because people got that idea in my head or if she was actually a bit immature lol. I thought the love triangle was so well-done in this book, too! I loved John and Peter; I couldn't decide for the life of me haha

  7. I personally think people got that idea in their head from seeing all of the reviews of the first book because all I picked up on was really a lack of experiences. People can go back and forth on it all they want, but to see her step up and take care of Kitty in Margot's absence as quickly as she did in To All the Boys I've Loved Before really just shows how mature she is. Plus, she's kind of an old soul. lol

I did love them both. Part of me wanted her to choose John and just move on from the silly game that she started in the first book, but I can see why she really fell for him. Maybe Han will write an update in a few years to let us see where Lara Jean is as an adult. I'd love that.

That's so funny that you knew I'd read it. :) It's definitely my kind of book, and I loved learning little tidbits of Lara Jean's culture. It was just so well done. I LOVED John. That whole USO dance scene made my heart melt! He's just adorable. :)

  14. I can understand not falling in love with the first book. I think it's definitely geared for a particular audience, and I just fell in it. You'll have to let me know what you think of this one, Max!

  15. Ah! I loved this book so much. I've been saving everyone's reviews in my reader so I could comment once I finished reading it (which I did yesterday). Almost no books make me as happy as these and I'm still not sure why. I'm so glad you enjoyed it too. Although it's interesting to hear you say people thought Lara Jean was immature! I never picked up on that and I must have been in a review bubble because I never read it either. It was also interesting reading this one because a lot of the things Lara Jean chooses are not what I would have done BUT they make sense for her as a character so even when everything didn't go 100% how I wanted, I still wound up happy and satisfied.

  16. I only slightly picked up on her immaturity in the first book, and I was shocked when I saw that people thought she was one of the most immature YA characters ever last summer. I just caught glimpses of a girl in over her head with changes, so I could see why people thought that she was immature. She had her moments, but she had a lot going on. But I really just think she was naive, and there is a huge difference between the two, you know? But she's so adorable. I love her for being naive because I was so naive in high school.

I feel the same way. I really thought she would end up with the boy that she didn't end up with because he just seemed perfect for her, but I think her choice was bold. It definitely brought her out of her shell and made her a much more memorable character for me.
