The Hardcover Lover's Year End Review (2015)

Say goodbye to 2015 and hello to 2016! I can't believe another year is gone, and that here we are, starting again with a new one.

Last year, I decided to do a yearly wrap-up post even though I had only been blogging for a few months. I really enjoyed reflecting on my year of reading and sharing everything with you, so I'm doing it again this year.

I'm going to expand on last year's post by including a few more updates, so grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and prepare to rewind with me!

Contemporary Romance Reading Challenge 2016

It's time for me to tell you all about another reading challenge that I'm joining for 2016! This challenge is the Contemporary Romance Reading Challenge, and it's hosted by Jess of Gone with the Words and Danielle of Love at First Page.

Can the best thing happen at the worst time?

Her dad went crazy. Her mom left town. She has bills to pay and a little sister to look after. Now is not the time for level-headed seventeen-year-old Lucille to fall in love. But love—messy, inconvenient love—is what she's about to experience when she falls for Digby Jones, her best friend's brother. With blazing longing that builds to a fever pitch, Estelle Laure's soulful debut will keep readers hooked and hoping until the very last page.

Jamie's 2015 End of Year Book Survey

It's time for another year-end survey! I know I just posted one yesterday, but this survey is one that's been around for years!

This time around, I'm using Jamie's End of Year Book Survey to tell you all a little bit more about my reading experiences this year! This is my first time completing Jamie's survey, but I'm pretty sure that it'll make an appearance again at the end of 2016.

All of the graphics, except for book covers and promotional images, were borrowed from Jamie's blog.

Note: The survey is for books you read throughout the year, no matter when they were published, and is not limited to just books that came out in 2015!!

Andi and Brittany's Statistics Survey 2015

Last year, I completed Andi and Brittany's Statistics Survey, even though I hadn't been blogging all that long. I also somehow managed to butcher the survey, and I still haven't fixed my mistakes in it. Oops. But I loved completing the survey so much, so I'm doing it again. Only this time, I'm pretty sure that everything is correct.

In case you aren't familiar with the survey, Andi and Brittany decided to gather some stats on what we read and our reading habits, rather than the number of page views or followers that we have. It's really fun, and you get to analyze everything on your Goodreads Read shelf! I absolutely love it!

Check out my answers after the jump!

Book Review: Lost Stars

Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Title: Lost Stars
Author: Claudia Gray
Publisher: Disney LucasFilm Press
Publication Date: September 4, 2015
Source: Purchased
Star Wars meets Romeo and Juliet in this epic YA novel that follows two best friends who find themselves on opposite sides of the war between the Empire and the Rebellion.

This thrilling YA novel gives readers a macro view of some of the most important events in the Star Wars universe: from the purge of the Jedi in Episode III, to the beginnings of the rebellion in Star Wars Rebels, and through the fall of the Empire in Episodes IV-IV. Readers will experience these major moments through the eyes of two best friends who grow up in these troubling times, and find themselves on opposite sides of the war.

As with other Journey to Episode VII titles, hints about the upcoming film will be included in the narrative, as well a original, post-Episode VI content that sets up the new film.

DUAL NARRATIVE: Chapters alternate perspectives between our two protagonists – one a Rebel pilot, the other an Imperial officer. By exploring these two different worlds, readers will experience many of the major moments in the original Star Wars trilogy – from the destruction of the Death Star to the battle of Hoth – through these two characters' eyes.

2016 Debut Author Challenge: My Goals

DAC2016
Hey, everyone! I realize that I haven't filled you in on some of my upcoming blogging plans, so I'm going to fix that right now.

I know we still have about a month left in 2015, but I'm already looking forward to 2016. I know, I know... There's still the holidays and New Year's Eve, but I'm excited, okay? It's not wrong? And if it is, well then I don't want to be right.

More specifically, I'm looking forward to reading some of the 2016 Middle Grade and YA debuts! That excitement is the reason for today's post. Once again, I'll be taking part in the Debut Author Challenge.

Over the past eleven months, I've been a pretty active participant in The 2015 Debut Author Challenge, which was hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Although I didn't get to read as many debuts as I'd have liked to, I did read quite a few of them. Heck, I even won the giveaway for January's link up!

Now I'm really, really hoping to read a lot more of the 2016 debuts, and I already have my hands on a few that I'm waiting until January 1 to start so they count for the challenge. Shhh! That's totally not cheating.

It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey...

With her trusty baton and six insanely organized clipboards, drum major Liza Sanders is about to take Destiny by storm—the boat, that is. When Liza discovered that her beloved band was losing funding, she found Destiny, a luxury cruise ship complete with pools, midnight chocolate buffets, and a $25,000 spring break talent show prize.

Liza can’t imagine senior year without the band, and nothing will distract her from achieving victory. She’s therefore not interested when her old camp crush, Lenny, shows up on board, looking shockingly hipster-hot. And she’s especially not interested in Russ, the probably-as-dumb-as-he-is-cute prankster jock whose ex, Demi, happens be Liza’s ex–best friend and leader of the Athenas, a show choir that’s the band’s greatest competition.

But it’s not going to be smooth sailing. After the Destiny breaks down, all of Liza’s best-laid plans start to go awry. Liza likes to think of herself as an expert at almost everything, but when it comes to love, she’s about to find herself lost at sea.

Hey, everyone! I'm one of the participating bloggers in the YA Reads 2015 Debut Authors Bash. It's an annual blog tour that celebrates all of the amazing debut authors and books that come out each year.

For my first ever Debut Authors Bash, I was able to interview Kate Scelsa, who's debut novel, Fans of the Impossible Life, came out in September.

 Amazon Barnes & Noble
Ten months after her recurring depression landed her in the hospital, Mira is starting over at Saint Francis Prep. She promised her parents she would at least try to pretend that she could act like a functioning human this time, not a girl who can’t get out of bed for days on end, who only feels awake when she’s with Sebby.

Jeremy is the painfully shy art nerd at Saint Francis who’s been in self-imposed isolation after an incident that ruined his last year of school. When he sees Sebby for the first time across the school lawn, it’s as if he’s been expecting him.

Sebby, Mira’s gay best friend, is a boy who seems to carry sunlight around with him like a backlit halo. Even as life in his foster home starts to take its toll, Sebby and Mira together craft a world of magic rituals and impromptu road trips, designed to fix the broken parts of their lives.

As Jeremy finds himself drawn into Sebby and Mira’s world, he begins to understand the secrets that they hide in order to protect themselves, to keep each other safe from those who don’t understand their quest to live for the impossible.

A captivating and profound debut novel, Fans of the Impossible Life is a story about complicated love and the friendships that change you forever.

If you could learn the identity of your one true love—even though you will never meet— would you?

Years have passed since refugees from a ruined earth took to space, eventually settling a new system of planets. Science has not only made the leaps necessary to allow time travel, but the process engineered a strange side effect—predicting your one true love.

If you could save your one true love from an untimely death, would you be able to resist?

Sixteen-year-old Kaia Vespasian is an apprentice to the Historians—a group charged with using time travel to document the triumphs and failures of the past—and she can’t resist a peek at her long-dead soul mate in Ancient Egypt. Before she knows it, she’s broken every rule in the book, and the consequences of getting caught could destroy more than just her new romance.

Or would you have the strength to watch him die?

  • Be sure to credit Jill somewhere in your post (see how I credited her above?)
