Top Ten Tuesday (6)

Top Ten Tuesday (TTT) is a weekly meme hosted by the ladies over at The Broke and Bookish.

Each week, there is a different topic, and all you need to do is give your answers in the form of a top ten list, but if you don't have enough books for a top ten list, just fit whatever you can.

This week, we tackle the sometimes dreaded, but sometimes loved issue of going back to school. Okay... I've been out of high school for six years now, but I occasionally work at my high school. I miss the feeling of going back to school. I miss it so much that I think I'm going to go back to school next year to get my Master's in Education.

Alright... but moving on...

Top Ten Book Characters That Would Be Sitting At My Lunch Table (you know...back to school theme)

  1. Cath Avery from Fangirl - The girl refused to go to the dining hall, so you might be wondering why I'm picking her. Truth be told, I'm a lot like Cath. I had trouble fitting in in college, especially when my friends transferred away. I feel like Cath would be my other half, and we'd be besties because we understand what it's like to feel like such an outcast.
  2. Wren Avery from Fangirl - I think Wren would be sitting at our lunch table out of pity and family obligations. But I think that she would bring some life to the table.
  3. Charlie from The Perks of Being a Wallflower - In a way, I can see myself trying to help Charlie fit it. I also think he'd be another great friend.
  4. Mia Hall from If I Stay - She loves music. I love music. She's in orchestra, and I was in band. I'm sure we'd have a lot to talk about just because of our love of instrumental and classical music.
  5. Adam Wilde from If I Stay - Come on. Where Mia goes, Adam goes. I also think he'd be another great and entertaining person at the lunch table. He and Wren would liven things up.
  6. Jude Hernandez from The Book of Broken Hearts - Jude and I would become friends because we've seen the horrible things that Alzheimer's can do to a person and a family. I think the rest of the gang would listen to her and cheer her up.
  7. Anna Oliphant from Anna and the French Kiss - Now this isn't any pristine French boarding school, but I think that Anna would fit in at our lunch table. She seems like a normal person who is just embarrassed because of her dad, and I think she'd want friends who wouldn't freak out about how he is famous. Besides, I can see Cath totally bashing him.
  8. Cassie Sullivan from The 5th Wave - Cassie seemed like a totally normal person before the apocalypse, and I think she'd be a great fit because she's not popular but she's not rude or snarky. I also think that if anyone made fun of anyone at the lunch table, she'd be one of the first to say something about it.
  9. Margot Song from To All the Boys I've Loved Before - Margot is determined and smart, and obviously daring and brave because of her college decision. I think she'd be the glue that kept the group in check. She'd always be making sure that everyone is on top of their studies. Plus, I feel like she and I have a lot in common, and we'd probably spend weekends together cramming for the SAT.
  10. Eleanor from Eleanor and Park - Eleanor would probably be the new kid at the table and just needed a seat for lunch on the first day of school. I think her hair might get a few crazy looks, but the group would accept her, help her find her classes, and eventually befriend her.

  1. Awesome post, Erin! :) All of your choices sound really cool, though I haven't read all of the books you mentioned. I'm going to publish my own TTT...well, probably right after posting this comment, and I have to say I didn't come up with quite as many fitting answers xD

    1. I went with the more realistic characters this week, so I choose all of them from contemporary and realistic fiction books, with the exception being Cassie. But I saw her as being pretty realistic. It was so hard because I so badly wanted my whole list just to be Hermione Granger because she'd be my best friend. Hands down.

  2. Wow it seems like you've got a lot of Rainbow Rowell's characters in mind. I love her characters as well. Being a twin sister, I think I relate more to Cath. Fangirl was amazing btw :D Great post!

    1. I love Rainbow's characters. They are all so different from one another, but completely loveable.

And you're a twin? That is so cool. I've wanted a twin my entire life, but then I figured I'd just hope for twins when I have kids of my own.

  3. Tons of Rainbow Rowell characters! I haven't even read any of RR's books except for Attachments. I love your list!

    1. Awe. Thank you.

Attachments is my favorite Rainbow Rowell book by the way. I just put myself in a high school situation for this.

  4. Aww, we share no lunch buddies! :( #sadness

I disliked Fangirl and Eleanor and Park but I ADORED Attachments so that counts for something I guess! I'm curious to see what Landline is like as that's supposed to be very good.

    1. :'-( I guess we'd be at different sections in the cafeteria. Just kidding. :D

I liked Cath more than Eleanor, but I liked Eleanor & Park more than I liked Fangirl if that makes any sense. lol

Thanks for the follow, Ella. Oh, I like that. It reminds me of Ella Enchanted. lol

  5. That's a very nice list. I actually read Fangirl recently and I could totally relate to Cath. I'm not AS awkward (I wouldn't stock up on granola bars and peanut butter just to avoid dining hall), but I was a lot like her. I think Wren would be entertaining, and Anna and I would get along just fine.

    1. Thank you! :)

I had Cath moments in college, especially when my roommate let her boyfriend move into our suite. I felt trapped in my own room, so I had a stockpile of Chewy bars, but that was only because I hated walking past them.

    2. Oh god, that sounds awful. She didn't check with you first? Your room should be your place to retreat, your sanctuary, and you should feel comfortable there.

    3. No. She didn't check. And it was still a dorm building, so it wasn't allowed. Like he would always leave his gallon of milk in the fridge, and he actually took mine out when I was in class and it went bad. And I never wanted to walk back to my bedroom after leaving the shower because her bedroom door was right across from it, and he'd stay way after she left.

It was terrible. I finally turned them in during finals week when they stayed up all night screaming.

    4. Good for you. Your dorm should be a place where you can rest. You have to deal with people all through the day, no need to deal with people when you're trying to read/sleep/relax. Sometimes people forget that there are others around and they forget to take that into account.

    5. Thanks. :)

I'm so glad that part of my life is over. It made the whole last week of living together worse, but I got to go home that summer and forget about it. Although forgetting was hard. I would never have done that to her. And I always asked if it was okay for me to bring friends in. Oh well. People just don't realize that life has boundaries.

    6. I can imagine! Thankfully, Belgium doesn't really have the dorm rooms that are attached to your school. You have small schools and you need to find a dorm room in the neighbourhood. Most people have a separate bedroom/study with a shared kitchen and bathroom, but I, luckily, have everything to myself. I really need that privacy and quiet.

    7. I like that. My school required that freshmen live on campus, and then my dad never let me move off campus. I would have done so much better in an apartment with my own space.

  6. I love how you choose characters from a more realistic setting! And I see most of them are Rowell characters which is pretty accurate as they're all so relatable. I still need to read Fangirl though, its been collecting dust on my TBR pile argh!

    1. Teacher problems. I'm blaming all my realistic choices on teacher problems. lol

I love Rainbow Rowell. I read all of her books this year because a middle school librarian suggested Eleanor & Park. I was probably going to read it anyway, but I went home and bought it that day. Fangirl isn't bad, but it's my least favorite out of the four of her books. But you should still read it. Cath is adorable.

  7. I'm embarrassed to admit, I've not yet met any on your list, Erin... though I LOVE it. Because of the movie, I'm eager to meet Mia and Adam (If I Stay) and am planning on reading the book soon as well as To All the Boys I've Loved Before which I heard was an excellent book.

Thanks for visiting and commenting on Dreaming Under the Same Moon - visit anytime. And I look forward to reading more from you. :)

    1. Oh no! I'm just kidding. If you ever get around to reading any of the books, let me know, and I'll be glad to check out any reviews. :)

Mia and Adam... Oh my. They are adorable together. If you do read If I Stay, make sure you read Where She Went.
