If you want to participate, all you need to do is link your post to Freda's blog. (She posts a link-up tool when she posts her Friday 56.) Then you open the book closest to you (or the one you're currently reading) to page fifty-six (or 56% on your e-reader). From there, you find a sentence or two that you want to share that will make someone who hasn't read the book want to read it. Just try not to spoil anything. We don't want to give away any major plot details.
This Friday, I'm reading Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins. Here's a tidbit of the happenings on page fifty-six.
"And they're off in their own world again. As if they don't see each other enough as it is. He stays in her dorm on weekdays, and she stays in his on weekends. Though I do admit their trade-off is appealing."
Okay... This might spoil a little bit, but I feel like I'm one of the last people to read Lola and the Boy Next Door. It seems like everyone else has already finished the series, and I'm still so behind! Oh well. I'm getting there. I even bought Isla and the Happily Ever After last week, so I'm sure I'll be reading it soon.
So what are you reading this Friday? Feel free to let me know in the comments, and as always, you can leave a link to your Friday 56 post, and I'll be sure to check it out.
Happy reading, and enjoy your weekend!
I read Anna and the French Kiss but never got around to Lola and the Boy Next Door, though it sounds fun. I think this is my first time at your blog. Looks good. Please check out my Friday memes. Anne's Friday Post
ReplyDeleteI only just read Anna and the French Kiss in July. I'd never seen them at any stores around my house. So far, Lola is just as good.
DeleteAnd thanks for visiting! That means so much. I hope you check more out, and I'm heading over to your posts right now! :)
I haven't even read 'Anna and the French Kiss' yet! I thought it was a really cliche romance book but so many people are loving the series that I think I might have to get into it! And that does sound like a good trade-off. Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great weekend.

That's why I stayed away from them for so long. I wanted books with more than just romance, but after I read Anna, I only wished that I had read it earlier. Oh well. Anna was a Half Price Books find, so it worked out eventually.
DeleteIf you ever get around to reading them, let me know. I'd love to see your opinions on them.
I've read Anna and the French Kiss. I didn't want to like it because of the cheating aspect, but I couldn't help myself - I loved it because it was cute and fluffy and that's that. I finished reading Lola and the Boy Next Door a couple days ago and I didn't like it as much. I couldn't relate to Lola and there were so many things that bugged me. But I'll still read Isla and the Happily Ever After!
ReplyDeleteThe cheating thing was weird. I was just like, "St. Clair. Dump her. You know you want to." I'm glad he did, but I think she handled it well. People do cheat in relationships, especially in high school, and I didn't feel like she was making St. Clair seem like he was totally all for it. I could feel his guilt.
DeleteAnd I'm really relating to Lola. I'm a sewer so it's fun to see a character who does that. She seems like the oddball that I was in school.
I guess I'm just not a big fan of the cheating storyline, even if they haven't done anything physically. You're still reading Lola so I won't say anything because of spoilers, but I didn't like the way it was handled. Like, in Anna, we were meant to dislike St Clair's girlfriend. And it's the same thing in Lola.
DeleteBut all that aside, they're still really cute and fluffy stories. :)
Ehh. I can guess what happens just from that.
DeleteI didn't really have a problem with St. Clair's girlfriend. I didn't feel like that at all. I just felt like they were in two different points in their lives and it was tough on both of them, but I never disliked her or anything. We really didn't even get to know her.
Yeah, exactly. I still got the feeling that we weren't meant to like her, because they used to be friends but then she stopped hanging out with them, and the slutty nurse outfit and such.. it was a bit overdone. I just feel like they grew apart, which happens when you go to different schools, and that's totally fine.
DeleteI forgot all about the nurse outfit.
DeleteBut I did think the whole friendship ending thing was realistic. It's just hard to believe that someone would cut herself off from her best friend completely. Maybe Perkins should write a short story from her POV. It would answer a lot of questions.
Yeah, exactly. She just went away to a different school and dropped everyone except her boyfriend, which was kind of weird. Ah well.
DeleteTotally weird.
DeleteI've not read any of this series but have heard a lot about it lately. Sounds like a good summer read.
ReplyDeleteHere is my 56 - http://fuonlyknew.com/2014/09/05/the-friday-56-35-cursed-a-guardian-chronicles-novel-by-trakena-prevost/
I like what I've read so far, and yes... Very good summer reads. If I actually liked the sun, I would take these books to the beach with me.
DeleteIf you ever read them, let me know. :)
I love Stephanie Perkins. She's pretty fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI'm reading the 100 Society. I forgot the author's name. I don't know why I requested it because the genre is not really my cup of tea but it's not so bad.
She became one of my favorites like five pages into Anna and the French Kiss. She has a horror series coming out soon. I'm kind of excited to check that out.
DeleteI've seen little tidbits about The 100 Society. Let me know how you end up liking the whole thing. I'm kind of interested in it. :-)
Awww I love this book <3 Cricket...
ReplyDeleteI'm only on chapter eight, but Cricket stole my heart during the pie scene. And when he was creeping in the window. I have to finish this series. It's like everything I've ever wanted.
DeleteI loved Anna and the French Kiss, but Lola doesn't seem to interest me. I do want to read the book about Isla though.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Friday 56
I'm getting so many mixed signals about Lola. I personally like her so far. I love that she has a weird sense for fashion and she's a sewer. I haven't seen a YA character like her so far.
DeleteI do want to read Isla too. I bought it last week, and I'm excited for the return of Josh.
I've heard a lot about Anna and the French Kiss but didn't realize it was part of a series. Lola and The Boy Next Door sounds like a fun story. One of these days I'll get around to reading them both!
ReplyDeleteHere's the link to my Friday post: Beach House Memories.
Yes. It's a part of a trilogy. The third one, Isla and the Happily Ever After came out last month.
DeleteFrom where I stand in Lola, it seems like the books could be read without reading the others. I saw on Goodreads that someone read Lola and the Boy Next Door without having read Anna and the French Kiss. But I like them so far. Perkins has created some wonderful characters.
It is appealing.
ReplyDeleteHaha. It definitely could be, especially if they don't have roommates.
DeleteI don't feel it spoiled things at all... I still wanna read it and don't know everything going on.
ReplyDeletePS - Happy weekend!
DeleteI thought that too, especially because they talked about that in Anna and the French Kiss.
DeleteHappy weekend to you too, Freda.
Do you remember which blog was claiming my meme? I'd love to check it out if possible.
DeleteI'll have to find it again, but another blog credited someone else with it. I clicked on the link and it was an education blog. I think I saved it on BlogLovin. I'll check and let you know.
DeleteI haven't tried this series yet but I just noticed my library has Anna, Lola and Isla in ebook form so I may be about to fix that! I'm glad you've been enjoying the books. I hadn't even read enough to know there was a cheating angle and while normally that would be an instant deal-breaker for me it does sound like it's dealt with in a readable way. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI need to get on this e-reader thing, but they are just way too expensive for me right now.
DeleteThe cheating thing in Anna really didn't bother me. I kind of saw it coming, and it was just one of those situations that you can just tell are hard to deal with in real life.
If you read them, let me know what you think. I'm probably going to start Isla this week, so I might have all of them finished soon.
