Soundtrack Saturday (8)

Soundtrack Saturday is a meme that I created because I often find myself thinking of songs when I'm reading. It's a way that I can share those songs that I think of when I'm reading with other people.

To participate, all I ask is that you link back to my blog in your post, comment on my post, and add your name to the link up. Then, you can either create a mini-soundtrack or a full book soundtrack. For instructions, feel free to visit the Soundtrack Saturday page. Feel free to use one of the Soundtrack Saturday logos that I have on my blog, but you can also make one of your own.

Last week's post was about The Selection by Kiera Cass, so this week, I'm focusing on the sequel, The Elite. I read this book as soon as it was released, so some of the songs might be a bit off, but from what I remember, I think these songs are a pretty good fit for the novel.

  1. "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper
  2. "Never Mind" - Taylor Swift*
  3. "Still Into You" - Paramore
  4. "It Will Rain" - Bruno Mars
  5. "They Don't Know About Us" - One Direction
  6. "Runaway Circus" - Lucy Hale
  7. "Team" - Lorde
  8. "Why Can't I" - Liz Phair
  9. "Outlaws" - David Lambert
  10. "Thunder" - Boys Like Girls
  11. "Poison and Wine" - The Civil Wars
  12. "Clarity" - Zedd feat. Foxes
  13. "Quit You" - Cedar + Gold
*Unreleased song

So... what do you think of these songs for The Elite? I tried to capture some songs that represent the many feelings that America, Maxon, and Aspen have throughout the book.

As always, feel free to leave a comment, and if you participate, let me know! I'd love to see your soundtracks for the week.

  1. I'm doing two different Soundtrack Saturdays and I'm excited to finally participate! People really like the Selection trilogy, and it seems like a story I would enjoy so I don't know why I haven't picked it up yet! I guess this will be another book added to my never-ending TBR lol. You always have such good songs on your playlists. I use to love, well still do "It Will Rain" by Bruno Mars. I don't know why, but I always burst out laughing when I hear Lucy Hale sing. That's kinda rude of me actually lmao.

    1. Yay! I can't wait to see them, Tika!

I really did enjoy the first three books, but I liked the last two the most. I will say that they are super corny and sometimes predictable, but they are cute. The only thing I wish Cass would have focused more on was the whole "trying to change things" aspect of it. It was supposed to be dystopia. lol

Oh man... I love Lucy Hale. Her country stuff is way better than some of the pop stuff they had her do for that weird Cinderella Story movie she was in.

    2. I never knew they were dystopian books! The only books I've read from that genre this year was The Divergent Trilogy. I seriously need to expand my horizons.

    3. They were pitched as dystopian, but I'd say that they are far from it because she doesn't really touch on the parts about the society. There are little things revealed here and there, and she could have done a better part on the world building. I'd say it's more romance, but there are hints of dystopia.

Girl, you have to read The Hunger Games trilogy. Those books got me into YA.

  2. These songs are great for The Elite! I especially like the choices of They Don't Know About Us, Clarity and It Will Rain. Funny, because It Will Rain is from the official Breaking Dawn Part 1 soundtrack, and so is one of the songs I picked today for my SS!

    1. Wait, what? "It Will Rain" was on the Breaking Dawn soundtrack? I had no idea, but I do hate everything Twilight, so... lol

The song is really good, though. I used to listen to it all the time.

    2. Hahah I don't suppose many people do know that xD My parents are a little obsessed with it, as strange as it sounds, so that's how I know. I don't blame you!

Yeah it is a nice song.

    3. I'm sure my sister would have known. She used my computer to download some of the songs. I was pretty mad at her because the Breaking Dawn album art showed up, but I changed it to the artist's album art. lol

And no... there were a lot of moms who were obsessed with Twilight. My best friend's mom read them all in like a week.
