Waiting On...

Title: Wait for Me
Author: Caroline Leech
Publisher: HarperTeen
Publication Date: January 31, 2017

Can their love survive a war?

It’s 1945, and Lorna Anderson’s life on her father’s farm in Scotland consists of endless chores and rationing, knitting Red Cross scarves, and praying for an Allied victory. So when Paul Vogel, a German prisoner of war, is assigned as the new farmhand, Lorna is appalled. How can she possibly work alongside the enemy when her own brothers are risking their lives for their country?

But as Lorna reluctantly spends time with Paul, she feels herself changing. The more she learns about him—from his time in the war to his life back home in Germany—the more she sees the boy behind the soldier. Soon Lorna is battling her own warring heart. Loving Paul could mean losing her family and the life she’s always known. With tensions rising all around them, Lorna must decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice before the end of the war determines their fate.

Why I'm Waiting...

My great grandfather fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Although he died when I was really young, I've often felt a sense of pride, knowing that he risked his life for his country during such a tumultuous war. I think he is one of the reasons why I find myself wanting to read about World War II all the time. I want to understand the time better, and I want to know the stories of people who were affected by it.

Because of that, Wait for Me, caught my eye immediately. I love that Ms. Leech is bringing together two very different characters, two enemies, on a farm in Scotland. It will be interesting to see how these two learn to get along when the world is on the brink.

What Are You Waiting On...

I realize that I haven't seen a lot of buzz for Caroline Leech's Wait for Me yet, but I'm curious... Is this something you'd want to read, too? If not, what book or books are you waiting on this week? Feel free to let me know below! You can leave a comment to tell me what books you're waiting on, or you can leave a link to your own Waiting On Wednesday post so I can visit your blog and check out all those lovely books!
