The Friday 56 (6)

The Friday 56 is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Freda at Freda's Voice.

The Friday 56 is a really cool book meme. You get to share a little bit of the book you're reading. You can either go to page fifty-six in your physical or e-copy, or you can select a passage from the fifty six percent marker on your e-reader. The only thing you want to watch out for are those spoilers. Try not to give away anything too important. The goal is to make someone curious enough to read the book you're currently reading.

This week, I'm going to post passages from two books that I'm reading, Damsel Distressed by Kelsey Macke and My True Love Gave to Me, a holiday story collection edited by Stephanie Perkins.

Damsel Distressed:

"Brice's arm is looped through Jonathan's as they walk down the aisle. They're completely adorable together. Like, make-me-want-to-barf adorable."

My True Love Gave to Me:

"I broke eye contact and kneeled down to pet Olive. I was so hungry now I constantly felt lightheaded.  My arms and legs felt like styrofoam. I'd finished off the hot dog bun and baby carrots and the yogurts the night before. When I awoke in the morning, I had half of the chocolate bar. I still felt hungry, though, and drank glass after glass of tap water thinking it would fill me up. It didn't work."

So those are my Friday 56 excerpts this week. I hope you enjoyed the little pieces of both of these ARCs.

What are you reading this week? Let me know in the comments, or leave a link to your Friday 56 post. And remember that if you did a Friday 56 post to visit Freda's blog and add your link to the link-up tool.

  2. 'My True Love Gave To Me' sounds really interesting although I'm slightly worried about the main character! Although 'Damsel Distressed' does sound very funny and recognizable. I simply don't know how people can stand being around couples that are so disgustingly adorable xD I'm a new GFC follower! Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. My True Love Gave to Me is actually a book of twelve stories, so there are quite a few main characters.

Damsel Distressed is so good. There is literally a little bit of everything in it. And I know. I would get so annoyed around couples that are overly cute and annoying.

      Thanks for following! :)

  3. Damsel Distressed. The title makes me smile and the narrator sounds maybe a bit jealous? I also like the title My True Love Gave To Me but the excerpt sounds sad. I wonder why so hungry? Thanks for sharing these and have a great weekend. Here is my 56 - http://fuonlyknew.com/2014/09/12/the-friday-56-36-a-crafty-christmas-by-mollie-cox-bryan/

    1. I would say that Imogen from Damsel Distressed is a bit jealous, but she's got a bunch of other problems too. It makes for an interesting read.

I haven't read the short story from My True Love Gave to Me yet, so I'm curious too.

    1. I tend to stay away from that level of cute, but I want it for myself one day.

    1. I know, right? Water always fills me up to the point that makes me wish I didn't drink so much.

  7. "They're completely adorable together. Like, make-me-want-to-barf adorable."

Personally, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that kind of love :)

    1. No, nothing at all, but if you ever read it, you'll understand why Imogen feels that way.

  8. Both sound like fun reads. I like the humor in the first one especially. I'm not sure what's going on with the MC in the 2nd but I've heard great things about Perkins.

    1. The second one isn't Perkins. The author of that story is Matt De La Peña. I am going to read that story later this weekend and see what it's about.

  9. Ok the quote from Damsel Distressed totally won me over :) And the second one is really interesting because the quote could mean lots of things really (I mean, why she feels that way).

    1. When I saw that on the page of Damsel Distressed, I knew it was my quote for this. It was the best thing on the page.
