Soundtrack Saturday (46)

I love books. I love music. I love it when the two are paired up, so I thought I'd create a feature to highlight both of my loves.

Soundtrack Saturday is a meme created and hosted by me, right here on The Hardcover Lover! So what is Soundtrack Saturday? It's a feature about bookish playlists! Each Saturday, I choose a book and post a playlist based on it! But that's not all. You can participate, too! I'm inviting all interested book bloggers to participate in this meme! Each week, I'll be posting a linky at the bottom of my post so that you can share your Soundtrack Saturday playlist for other bloggers and blog readers to find.

As with all bookish memes, there are a few easy steps to follow to help you create your own perfect Soundtrack Saturday post:
  • Choose a book that you've read or are currently reading - any book is fine as long as you can create a playlist for it
  • Create a full (10+songs) or a mini (four songs) playlist for the book of your choosing
    •  For more detailed instructions on the different types of soundtracks and how to make them, please visit the meme's homepage.
  • Please credit me somewhere in your post. It can be as simple as "Soundtrack Saturday is a weekly meme that was created by Erin at The Hardcover Lover."
  • Leave a comment on my blog post if you enjoy the feature
  • Add your name to the link-up tool at the bottom of the post

Dorothy Must Die

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige is a supernatural fantasy that revisits the beloved land of Oz. In this book, a young protagonist named Amy Gumm is taken to Oz when a tornado sweeps through her trailer park. There, she finds out that Oz is real and that Dorothy found her way back only to become an evil princess who is ruining Oz for all of the creatures and people.

I thought a lot about the different kinds of genres that would really work for Dorothy Must Die, and every time I thought about it, I really thought that punk rock and rock would best fit this strange new Oz that Amy visits. Wicked is good and good is wicked, and Amy quickly realizes that she can only depend on her own heart to tell her what's right and what's wrong.

Strangely enough, my brother is a huge fan of the Pop Goes Punk collections, and a lot of the songs he listens to found their way to this playlist.

1. "Over the Rainbow" - Me First and the Gimme Gimme's
2. "Ghost Town" by Shiny Toy Guns
3. "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons
4. "Rise & Fall" by The Rigs
5. "Glory and Gore" by Lorde
6. "Misguided Ghosts" by Paramore
7. "Daughters of Darkness" by Halestorm
8. "I Knew You Were Trouble" by We Came as Romans
9. "Chandelier" by Sia
10. "Burn" by Ellie Goulding
11. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Lorde
12. "My Happy Ending" by Avril Lavigne

Okay... I probably would have added a lot more Lorde to this playlist, but I cut her back to two songs. Anyway, I feel like pink-haired Amy Gumm would like a lot of the songs on this playlist, and I think it's just dark enough for the new Oz that Danielle Paige introduces to readers.

Feel free to let me know what you think of the playlist down below in the comments, and if you're posting a Soundtrack Saturday post this week, be sure to link up below so I (and other bloggers/blog readers) can check them out!
