Review: Cress

Title: Cress
Series: The Lunar Chronicles
Author: Marissa Meyer
Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
Publication Date: February 4, 2014
Source: Purchased
In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.

Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever  had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she’s just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

My Review

Oh my stars!

I have to start my review off by stating that the third book in The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer is, in my opinion, the best one yet! I can only hope (and I truly expect) that more amazing things are on the way in Fairest and Winter.

Once again, Meyer's stellar use of dramatic irony had me hooked. I did not want to put this book down! I couldn't wait to see what happened when the characters found out information that I already knew. It was almost addictive to keep reading just for their reactions.

The newest main character, Cress, is by far the most adorable naive character I've ever come across in a YA book. Her story is so captivating and entertaining. I wouldn't have cared if Meyer wrote over a thousand pages for this book. I would have read it just to learn more about Cress because she is just that cute and quirky.

I also love how Meyer perfectly entwines Cress' story with those of the other characters, like Cinder, Thorne, Scarlet, Wolf, and Kai. It was wonderful to see how she was connected to them and how she can work with them. I truly hope that we see Cress grow and mature a little more in the next book like we've seen Cinder grow since the beginning of the series.

Now... the ending! I'm so happy. I loved the ending. It was the perfect cliffhanger, and I've been waiting for Cinder to say those words since the end of Cinder. I'm so glad that she is finally confident enough to reveal her secrets, and I cannot wait to see how this unlikely group of heroes will use that to their advantage in Winter.

  1. I loved Cress and I can't wait for Winter and Fairest. I think Fairest is going to center around Queen Levana with her evil a-s-s-! My favorite characters so far are hands down Cress and Captain Thorne. He's so funny and cute it's a shame lol.

    1. Yeah. Fairest is the Queen Levana back story. I'm more excited for Winter, though.

I totally ship Thorne and Cress. They are too cute together. I also really hope something more happens between Kai and Cinder, but I'm pretty sure it will.

  2. I loved this book too! Cinder will always be my favorite, but Cress is a close second. This is a great review. I didn't even know about Fairest.

    1. I love Cinder too, so I hope we get a lot more on her in Winter. I feel like she is going to be a total B.A.

And Fairest is a companion book, but it's being released in hardcover. I like that because I hate e-books and still haven't read the companion novellas. My Waiting on Wednesday for today is actually about Fairest.

  3. Cress is such a cutie patootie! I really do hope something will happen between she and Thorne in Winter, shipper feels!

    1. I know, right? I hope something happens with them. I want Thorne to prove Erland wrong.

  4. I've been told by friends and various book bloggers that I *must* read these books and while I *really* want to, review copies have kept me busy. At least the one good thing that comes from waiting is being able to binge read vs. enduring cliffhangers. ;)

    1. I wanted to read Cinder right when it came out, but then something stopped me. I thought the whole scifi thing was weird, so I just left it on my TBR list for a while.

They are really good books, and I'm glad that I binge read them. It made it a little better than waiting.

I have like four or five review books that I'm working on right now, so I know kind of how you feel. I am trying to spread them out so I can at least read for pleasure too.
