Soundtrack Saturday (51)

Hey, there everyone, and welcome to this week's Soundtrack Saturday post!

So anyone who might be new to my blog (or oblivious to this meme) might be thinking, "What on Earth is Soundtrack Saturday?" Soundtrack Saturday is a bookish meme that I created so I could share my love of books and music. Each Saturday, I choose a book and post a playlist full of songs based on the characters, the plot, and the themes in the book.

But that's not all. You can participate, too! I'm inviting all interested book bloggers to participate in this meme! Each week, I'll be posting a linky at the bottom of my post so that you can share your Soundtrack Saturday playlist for other bloggers and blog readers to find.

As with all bookish memes, there are a few easy steps to follow to help you create your own perfect Soundtrack Saturday post:
  • Choose a book that you've read or are currently reading - any book is fine as long as you can create a playlist for it
  • Create a full (10+songs) or a mini (four songs) playlist for the book of your choosing
    •  For more detailed instructions on the different types of soundtracks and how to make them, please visit the meme's homepage.
  • Please credit me somewhere in your post. It can be as simple as "Soundtrack Saturday is a weekly meme that was created by Erin at The Hardcover Lover."
  • Leave a comment on my blog post if you enjoy the feature
  • Add your name to the link-up tool at the bottom of the post

Every Exquisite Thing

by Matthew Quick

If you read my blog regularly, you'll know that I recently read and reviewed Matthew Quick's latest YA novel, Every Exquisite Thing. If you know anything about Quick's writing style, you'll remember that he includes a lot of pop culture references. Such is the case for Every Exquisite Thing. This time, he includes a few songs and bands, and that really got the creative juices flowing for this week's Soundtrack Saturday playlist.

1. "What the Hell" by Avril Lavigne
2. "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett
3. "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" by The Smiths
4. "You're Not Good Enough" by Lightspeed Champion
5. "We Are Beautiful, We Are Damned" by Los Campesinos!
6. "Love is a Battlefield" by Pat Benatar
7. "Invincible" by Pat Benatar
8. "All Fired Up" by Pat Benatar
9. "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper
10. "The Sea is a Good Place to Think of Your Future" by Los Campesinos
11. "Salty Water" by Lightspeed Champion

Now you might notice a few songs by a few of the same artists in this playlist. A lot of these artists are very important to the character's and their journeys in the book. A few of these songs actually make appearances in the book, but I did add a few choices of my own by the same artists because I felt like the characters would really enjoy it.

I really hoped that you liked this week's playlist for Soundtrack Saturday. Now I realize that Every Exquisite Thing isn't out yet, but I'm hoping that my review and this playlist piqued your interest enough to give it a read when it comes out at the end of the month.

As always, feel free to leave a comment to let me know what you think of the playlist and the songs that I chose this week. Bloggers - don't forget! If you're participating in Soundtrack Saturday this week, add your name to the link up at the bottom of the post!
