Ten Book Challenge

I was nominated to do the Ten Book Challenge by Jennie over at A Bookworm Called Jennie. Click here to see her Ten Book Challenge.

So what do you have to do once you've been tagged?

All you need to do is list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Do not take more than a few minutes, and do not think about it too hard. They do not have be the 'right' books or great works of literature, just ones that have affected you in some way. Paste these instructions and tag ten friends through comments. Be sure to comment on my blog so I can see your list!

Jennie also included comments in her list, and I am doing the same, but not to copy her. I love quotes, so I'm including them because I feel like a quote will give you a reason as to why the books have stuck with me for so long.

Here is my list in no particular order.

  1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
"We accept the love we think we deserve."
“Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn't stop for anybody.”
"So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that could be.”
"An in that moment, I swear we were infinite."
  2. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
“I hope she'll be a fool -- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”
“Can’t repeat the past?…Why of course you can!”
  3. It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
“I can't eat and I can't sleep. I'm not doing well in terms of being a functional human, you know?”
“I don't know how I can be so ambitious and so lazy at the same time.”
  4. Damsel Distressed by Kelsey Macke
"When are we gonna get a fat princess? How about a princess with bad acne and crappy posture and the mouth of a sailor? Probably never. Every. Single. One. Is the same. Totally hot. Totally predicable."
"But pain can make you beautiful... if you try."
  5. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
"The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure."
"It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."
"Fear of a name increases fear of a thing itself."
"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live."
“Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect.”
"If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals."
  6. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
“Guys like us got nothing to look ahead to”
  7. A Little Princess by
    “Everything's a story - You are a story -I am a story.”
“I am a princess. All girls are. Even if they live in tiny old attics. Even if they dress in rags, even if they aren’t pretty, or smart, or young. They’re still princesses.”
  8. Wonder by R.J. Palacio
“I think there should be a rule that everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their lives.”
  9. One Day by David Nicholls
“You can live your whole life not realizing that what you're looking for is right in front of you.”
  10. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”
“People generally see what they look for, and hear what they listen for.”

  1. THE GREAT GATSBY!!! If it was a top 20 list, I'd have put it up on my list too! I read One Day then watched the movie after. I sobbed so hard.

    1. I love love love The Great Gatsby. The name of my Tumblr is "A Beautiful, Little Fool."

One Day was one of my summer reads a few summers ago, and I loved it. I need to re-read it soon.

  2. Thanks for the nomination, Erin! :) This sounds very interesting.
Nice choices~ I haven't read all of them, but I believe they're all somewhere on my Goodreads shelves. I'll definitely make a special note to read all of them now ;)

    1. You're welcome, Connie! It was one of the simplest book tags that I had to do, but I complicated it by adding the quotes.

When you read them, be sure to drop by and tell me. Although I'm sure I'll eventually see that you read them on Goodreads. :)

  3. Thanks for the nomination, Erin! I can't wait to get to this :D

I second One Day. I read that a while ago but still remember how it's message affected me. Definitely a favourite of mine and I can't wait to find some time to read his newest work!

    1. No problem, Jess. I thought that you'd come up with a cool list, so I picked you! :)

One Day is such a good book. When I bought it, I was expecting a cheesy adult romance book, but it quickly became one of my favorites for how it shows that life can be so short. It's still the only book I've read by Nicholls, but all of his other ones are on my TBR list. I can't wait to read them.

  4. "If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals." is one of my favourite quotes. I think it helps me to be a better person.

I have yet to read a lot of the books in your list, although I have seen the It's Kind of a Funny Story movie.

    Great picks!

    1. J.K. Rowling is such a genius, right? I could have kept going because there are just so many great quotes in the entire series.

I love the movie version of It's Kind of a Funny Story. The rock band scene is just hilarious. It's one of my go to movies when I have a bad day.
