Top Ten Tuesday (7)

Top Ten Tuesday (TTT) is an original, weekly meme hosted by the ladies over at The Broke and Bookish. They love creating lists, and each week, there is a new topic for list creation galore!

This week's topic is all about authors. More specifically, we're creating lists of authors who we've only read one book from, but want to read more.

Top Ten Authors I've Only Read One Book From But Need To Read More

  1. Sara Shepard - I've only read Pretty Little Liars, but I own the next nine books in the series. I'm just waiting to finish a few books before I get to read them. I also want to read some of her other books like The Heiresses and The Lying Game.
  2. Laurie Halse Anderson - I've only read Speak, but Wintergirls is on my bookshelf.
  3. Rick Yancey - I read The 5th Wave this year, and I'm impatiently waiting for my copy of The Infinite Sea to get here.
  4. Harper Lee - Obviously, this one isn't going to happen, but if Ms. Lee were to ever write another book, I'd be all over it.
  5. Susane Colasanti - I've only read Keep Holding On. While I don't remember much of the plot now, I remember that it was an enjoyable read, so I'd like to read more by her.
  6. Mitch Albom - I read Tuesdays with Morrie during my senior year of high school, and I loved it. While some of his books are a bit too Christian for my taste, there are still some other ones that I'd like to read.
  7. John Green - Even though I read and hated The Fault in Our Stars, I feel like swearing him off completely is unfair. I'll probably end up giving Mr. Green one more chance before I write him off completely.
  8. Hilary Duff - I'm really curious to see how the Elixir trilogy ends. Sorry... not sorry.
  9. Helen Fielding - I need to read the rest of the Bridget Jones books!

  1. I hope you get around to Wintergirls sometime soon! :) I did enjoy speak and I really respect what she was attempting to do, but Wintergirls blew my mind. It's so beautiful and so tragic. It really opens your eyes to eating disorders and how toxic the community can be.

I actually totally agree with you about John Green! I read The Fault in Our Stars and just wasn't all that impressed. I'd really like to try out Will Grayson, Will Grayson, though.

    1. I was supposed to read Wintergirls for an August challenge, but too much got in the way. Oops. I actually didn't enjoy Speak. I don't know why, but I never wanted to pick it up after taking a break.

I'm thinking that Will Grayson, Will Grayson is going to be the book that I'll read by him next, but I feel like because it's a collaboration, it doesn't really count towards him, you know? I'll have to read one that is solely by Green.

    2. Okay so I'm sooooo butting in this conversation! lol. Since you guys didn't enjoy TFIOS, to read more work from John Green, I would start with Looking For Alaska. I preferred that over TFIOS. Maybe it was the boarding school, or the characters, I'm not sure but I cried at the end because I was so pissed. In a good way though. I reallyyyyy liked Will Grayson, Will Grayson. The ending was stupid as hell, BUT that didn't take away from the rest of the story. You're going to love Tiny.

Erin, I haven't read anyone on your list except John Green so we're kinda even now! lol

Jules, I'm heading over to your blog to check out your list!

    3. The only thing that scares me is that I've seen a lot of reviews for Looking for Alaska that say the book isn't original at all and a huge ripoff of other books and the movie, 500 Days of Summer. And the kids I had in class last year all seemed to hate it too. lol

That is way too funny that you haven't read the people on my list and I haven't read the people on your list. Like wow.

    4. I know! I was thinking in my head "I seriously need to read more books." lol. Looking For Alaska reminded me alot of Winger. They definitely had their differences, but alot of aspects of the story were the same. I'm not sure which book was published first though. I haven't read Paper Towns, and I don't think I'm ever going to read The Abundance of Catherines, so that's probably why I say Looking for Alaska is my favorite lol

    5. I haven't read Winger.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that Looking for Alaska probably isn't for me, but I might try An Abundance of Katherines.

  2. In relation to the above conversation, I would say that Looking For Alaska would be a good choice to try next. It's short and really makes you think. If you don't like that book, then I would swear off John Green.

I've been thinking of reading Hilary Duff's books! She was just recently in Australia (where I live). Did you actually enjoy the first one?

    1. I just replied to Tika that Looking for Alaska is one that I'm not really looking forward to reading because of its unoriginality.

I did enjoy her first book. It was cute and adventurous, and I had a good time reading it. I know she had someone help her out, but the idea was really good, and I liked the characters.

    2. Yes, I see. Maybe you shouldn't try any more John Green books then haha!

      Oh cool! :)

    3. Hahaha. He does have a new one coming out, but there isn't any information on it other than a working title. Maybe I'll try that one instead.

But my friend read Looking for Alaska yesterday, and she wasn't into it, and she and I pretty much feel the same way about books like that a lot.

    4. That could be a good idea :)

I see. Tbh, I didn't love it (I hated all the characters), but I liked a lot of quotes from it, and the different ways it could be interpreted. Given that your friend didn't like it and you often agree, I would steer clear of it!

    5. I hate when I hate the characters in a book. Usually I can find at least one that I like, but when they're all bad, I want to throw the book out the window. lol

    6. ahaha I guess your decision has been made then :P

    7. Yeah. So sad. Maybe I'll try An Abundance of Katherines. I haven't really seen any reviews on that one.

  3. I was all wrong about the title I said " The Abundance of Catherines" Lmao. But idk why I don't want to read it. I read the synopsis and just knew I wasn't going to pick up.

    1. That one just seems like the most unique out of all of his books just based on the title. I never see it though, so I'm guessing it wasn't as popular as his other books.

  4. I've been wanting to read The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey.

    1. The 5th Wave is one of those books that I was sure I was going to hate, but I'm so glad that I ended up loving it. It is such a great book. I'm actually hoping that my copy of The Infinite Sea gets here today so I can see what happens before someone ends up spoiling it for me.
