Top Ten Tuesday (24)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created and hosted by the awesome ladies at The Broke and the Bookish. They created this particular feature because they love making and sharing bookish lists with their readers. Well it just so happens that I am also a fan of list making, so I try to participate in Top Ten Tuesday as much as possible.

The steps to participating in Top Ten Tuesday are pretty simple:
  1. Go to The Broke and Bookish to get this week's theme
  2. Make a Top Ten list with your picks
  3. Post your list and make sure to link to The Broke and Booksish somewhere in it
  4. Add your name to the link up on their blog

This week's Top Ten list is all about those hyped books that you haven't read yet. If it's hyped or over-hyped, and you haven't read it, then add it to your list!

1. Paper Towns by John Green - I see this book everywhere I go, but I have not read it. Most of you may know that I had trouble with a previous John Green book, and for some reason, I'm just afraid to read another book by the famous YA author.
2. The DUFF by Kody Keplinger - I actually bought this book a few months ago, and I was determined to read it before the movie came out, but I still haven't.
3. The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy by Jenny Han - I've heard amazing things about these three books, but I still haven't read them. Maybe I will now that there is a beautiful paperback bind-up of all three available at Target.
4. The Shatter Me trilogy by Tahereh Mafi - To be honest, I don't even know what these books are about, despite seeing a review for one of them crop up every few days.
5. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard - I was so excited about this one before it came out. I even bought it the day that it was released, but I still haven't read it.
6. Just Listen by Sarah Dessen - I'm slowly making my way through Sarah Dessen's books this summer, but I hear that this one is one of her better ones. I'll have to pick it up soon.
7. The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas - This is another one of those series that I see everywhere in the book blogging community, but I really have no interest in reading it.
8. Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen - This is another Dessen title that I've heard is amazing! I actually own this one, so I really hope I'll get to it before summer is over.
9. What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick - I read Huntley's debut for the first time last month, and I feel like I've been missing out on so much! I'm hoping to read What I Thought Was True this month.
10. The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh - I recently won this book, so I'll be reading it soon!

I think I may have actually given away my copy of Paper Towns O_O

The Shatter Me series is REALLY good! I’m not a big fan of dystopian, but I love these ones because I feel like the focus is more on the MC and her acceptance of herself and becoming a better character in the end.

Just Listen is my second favorite from Dessen, right after Saint Anything :)

  2. I just don't like John Green. I find him to be way too pretentious. How funny... I gave my copy of The Fault in Our Stars away!

I've heard amazing things about Shatter Me. I'm just not sure if it's a series that I'd like because I've only enjoyed two dystopian series.

I think everybody loves Just Listen. My sister is always telling me that it's one of her favorite Dessen books.

I need to read The Wrath and the Dawn. I added it to my July TBR. I'll have to let you know what I think of it once I read it. :)

Great list! I've only read Paper Towns and liked it but I generally like John Green. I am currently listening to Red Queen now and am really liking it. I just started my first Sarah Dessen book this week. I can't wait to see if it lives up to all the hype around her books.

I haven't liked any of Green's books so far that I have read, but Paper Towns was actually good for me! It's pretty different than TFiOS. Just Listen is one of Dessen's better books, but Along for the Ride is my favorite. :) I tried ToG but I didn't like it enough to finish it.

  5. I really loved Red Queen! It was not completely unique, but the writing was great. On the other hand, I could not stand Shatter Me. I never understood what all of the hype was about. There was too much reptition, crazy metaphors, and insane writing for me to like it. I also did not really like Paper Towns. It felt too much like his other books and the starring character had an extreme case of manic pixie syndrome.

The Summer I Turned Pretty series was such an adorable series, and was quite unpredictable too! Just Listen wasn't my favourite Dessen book, but it had some great characters.

  7. I actually like Throne of Glass. Celaena is pretty badass. The romance is meh. And Chaol seems meh until later in the series. The series DOES have some awesome action scenes, though!
And I didn't like Shatter Me. I was like, 'Uh. Really? Okay?' the entire book

  8. The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy was pretty good. I didn't enjoy the first book but I decided to continue on anyway and by book three I was in love with the trilogy!

Paper Towns was one that I didn't enjoy much. I hope you like it more than me! I'll still go see the movie though. Shatter Me is also good.

  9. Yay! I'll definitely have to read The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy then. I like unpredictable contemporaries.

  10. I'm glad that you liked Red Queen! I've heard it's really similar to Red Rising, but I've never read that book, so I'm not sure if I should try to read it first. I'm leaning towards not reading Shatter Me just because I feel like it's done and over with by now - like I should have read it last year. And Paper Towns is just not on my list at all. lol

  11. I only read TFIOS, and I hated it with a passion. I've seen little snips of his other books, and they just don't grab me. I don't like his writing style.

I'm reading Someone Like You right now, and I'm not really 100% impressed. I'm liking the story, but I'm kind of finding Dessen's writing to be a tad bit dull. I'm hoping her later books are better.

  12. I see. Fantasy can be like that. You either love it or hate it. And it works on its own rules, so that turns people off too.
Yeah. Dystopian is getting too common. I didn't like the series personally, so I don't suggest it to people.

  13. I've found that I just like certain series more than others when it comes to fantasy. Anything that has anything too paranormal or supernatural turns me off. :(

  14. I see. Yeah. The supernatural can get a bit odd.
