Stacking the Shelves (19)

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature/bookish meme hosted by Tynga on her blog, Tynga's Reviews, although I'm guilty of not posting every week! You know how life gets in the way, right?
The meme is all about sharing the books that you have added to your shelves and e-readers. This means that you can include any physical books that you buy in stores or online, but you can also include all of those e-books and eARCs for your digital reading device.

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly feature hosted by Tynga on her blog, Tynga's Reviews. This book meme is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves - physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in any physical store or online. You can include all those e-books that you've picked up. You can include the ARCs (both physical and digital) you've been approved for. You can also include books that you may have borrowed from a friend or the library, and you can include books that you've acquired through trading! Seriously... if it's a book, you can include it in your post.

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga's Reviews. The meme is all about sharing the books you've added to your shelves throughout the week with your readers. The books you're adding to your shelves can be either physical books or digital books for your e-reader. It is normally posted by Tynga on Saturdays, but I've noticed that other bloggers are posting it on other days of the week.
That's good news for me because I already have a Saturday meme and I don't like to post too many things on one day, although sometimes I will have two or three posts a day. It all depends on what I've got going on.
Because of this, I like to post my Stacking the Shelves posts whenever I get the chance (or whenever I buy books). My Stacking the Shelves posts are also sporadic because I try not to buy books until I've finished quite a few.
  • The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler - Simon sent this to me after a very enthusiastic request, and I am so so so so so excited to read and review it. *
  • Hit by Delilah S. Dawson - Simon also sent an ARC of this to me for review. It's definitely different than what I'm used to reading, but I'm going to give it a try. *
  • The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski - I ordered this from Book Outlet, and because I had a coupon, I only had to pay for shipping.
  • The DUFF by Kody Keplinger - So a while ago, someone told me to read this, but I was kind of offended because I was the DUFF pretty much all through high school. I decided to give it a chance, so I picked it up at Target.
 * Review copy

  • Falling from the Sky by Nikki Godwin - I took advantage of this when it was free on the Kindle store. It's an LGBTQ book, and I haven't read very many of those, even though I want to. I'll probably review it once I read it.
  • The Fierce Reads Anthology - This one was free on the Kindle store, and it has a bunch of original short stories by some YA authors. I'm really looking forward to reading the story by Marissa Meyer.
So what have you all been adding to your shelves this week? As always, feel free to let me know in the comments.

This week, most of my books are digital review copies. I'm already reading one of them, and I actually had the chance to read a physical copy of one through an ARC tour already.

  • Positively Beautiful by Wendy Mills - I was really glad to be approved to read this on NetGalley because I actually already read it. I went in and submitted my review for this wonderful book right away. I'm waiting to post a review for this one here until closer to the publication date, but I really enjoyed it.
  • When Reason Breaks by Cindy L. Rodriguez - I'm reading this one right now, and I'm enjoying it. It's refreshing because not only is it a diverse book, but there are poems by Emily Dickinson intertwined with the plot.
  • Seeker by Arwen Elys Dayton - I haven't started this one yet, but I will soon. It's fantasy, and I'm trying to read a little more fantasy this year.
I also won a copy of The Accidental Highwayman by Ben Tripp. I'm looking forward to reading that soon.

So what did you add to your shelves this week? Have you read any of these yet? Were you approved for any of these titles? Feel free to let me know in the comments, and check back soon for reviews!

After my last book haul, I kind of promised myself not to buy any more books until I read at least half of what I own but haven't read. I kind of broke that promise.

In case you didn't know, I am a certified English teacher. I don't have a full-time teaching job yet, but I'm hoping to find one soon because I absolutely love teaching. Because of my background in education, I love reading books like these and seeing some of the hilarious things that students come up with when they have no idea what the answer is.

I already read a copy of F in Exams, but it was my sister's and I wanted a copy of my own for when I finally get my own classroom. I was lucky enough to find these three at TJ Maxx on clearance. I only need to get a few more to complete my collection, but I'm really looking for the English/ELA one.

So what did you recently add to your shelves this week? As always, feel free to tell me in the comments. Also, leave the links to your Stacking the Shelves posts so I can check them out!

Like I said earlier, I've been trying really, really hard not to buy anymore books until I read a few more, but I've been finding so many books that I want to read. And there are so many great winter releases this year! Of course that means I'm buying some books. Oops.

But... I've been cleaning my shelves too. That sadly means that I'm getting rid of books that I know I'll never read again. I'm also trying clear my shelves of duplicates. It's not that I don't love my books; I just don't have the room for them anymore. And why keep a book when I know that I'll never read it again? I'd rather them end up in the hands of someone else who will read and love them.

Okay... it really does seem like it's been forever since I've done a Stacking the Shelves post, but that's because I've been trying really hard not to buy any more books until I've read a few that were on my TBR list. Well... I read a few, but my book lust got the best of me, and I've purchased some books. I also received some free e-books since my last Stacking the Shelves post.

  • My True Love Gave to Me edited by Stephanie Perkins - If you've been keeping up with my blog, you'll know that I received an ARC of this in September. I couldn't resist it when I saw it in Target the other day.
  • Atlantia by Allie Condie - Many of you might remember my not so favorable review of the Matched series, but I read the preview for Atlantia and I really enjoyed it. It left me wanting more, so I bought the first copy that I saw.

  • Miss Mabel's School for Girls and Antebellum Awakening by Katie Cross - I won these two books from the same Goodreads giveaway. They are the first two books in The Network series.
  • Zodiac by Romina Russell - I also won an ARC of this book on Goodreads, and from what I can tell, there are quite a few people who were jealous. Let me tell you... it's good so far.
  • Channel '63 (The Age of Amy #3) - I also won this book on Goodreads. It's part of a series, but I haven't read the first two books. It does seem like it can be read as a standalone book.

It's been a long time since I've added any books to my shelves because I am trying really hard to read a few of the books on my TBR list before I buy any more. Let me tell you, it is the most difficult thing I've done, but I have not bought a book since August. It's really helping me focus on reading the books that I own.

That being said, the books that I've gotten this week were either gifts or given to me for review. It's not every day that I can say I can dedicate an entire post to free books.

Books I've Added to My Shelves:

  • To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  • Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger
  • Curtsies & Conspiracies by Gail Carriger
  • Waistcoats & Weaponry by Gail Carriger
  • Fiddler on the Roof: Based on Sholem Aleichem's Stories by Joseph Stein
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books ever, and I am so happy to finally have a copy of it. It's a pretty cool edition too. First of all, it's a hardcover, and it's from England! I'm still planning on finding an American edition of the classic book, but until then, this one will do.

I am planning on binge reading the Finishing School series soon, so look for a series review of that in the future.

Fiddler on the Roof is a recent request of mine from Blogging for Books. I'm still waiting for it to arrive in the mail because it is such a beautiful bind up of the beloved musical. I've always wanted to see the it performed live, and I think it would be cool to see it all written down. Musicals are awesome!

Okay. I know I promised myself that I was in the middle of a book buying ban because I have way too many books on my TBR pile right now, but I broke it today.

I went to Half Price Books with my sister to get Isla and the Happily Ever After, and I noticed that Flawless (Pretty Little Liars #2) was on clearance for $2. I've been there so much recently that I knew there were a ton of the Pretty Little Liars books in the YA section. So what did I do? I grabbed them all!

Books I Purchased Today:

  • Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
  • Flawless by Sara Shepard
  • Perfect by Sara Shepard
  • Unbelievable by Sara Shepard
  • Wicked by Sara Shepard
  • Killer by Sara Shepard
  • Heartless by Sara Shepard
  • Twisted by Sara Shepard
  • Dreamland by Sarah Dessen
I feel pretty lucky to have been able to find books two through seven in the Pretty Little Liars series. It gives me some time to find book nine in hardcover before moving on to book nine. I also bought my first Sarah Dessen book. My sister is probably going to take it because she loves Sarah Dessen, but I'll probably read it.

Books can be either physical books or e-books. The books can be books that you've purchased, borrowed, or received for review or as a gift.

This is my first time participating in Stacking the Shelves. I hope to be able to participate often, and when I do, my Stacking the Shelves posts will be posted on Saturdays or Sundays.

I added a lot of books to my shelves this week. A lot. Okay... well maybe not a lot, but quite a few books were added to my shelves this week. I placed book orders through Book Outlet and Amazon, and both packages arrived on my porch this week.

These are the books that I've added to my shelves this week:
  • Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
  • Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
  • The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson
  • Girls in White Dresses by Jennifer Close
  • Every Day by David Levithan
  • Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
  • Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt
  • The F- It List by Julie Halpern
  • Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill
  • Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne
