My Review
Warning: If you have not read the first book in this duo, you might not want to read this review.
When I first started blogging last year, To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han was one of the "it" books of the summer. At that point, I was already planning on reading it, and when I finally did, I fell for it. I fell hard. The book was actually one of the first books I reviewed on my blog, so it's very near and dear to me. It was just adorable. So when I found out that there would be a sequel, I was thrilled. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it, so here we are.
I know a lot of people complained about Lara Jean's immaturity in To All the Boys I've Loved Before, and I didn't really pick up on it then. There were some parts when I felt she was a bit immature, but in reality, teenagers are. It's in their nature. I caught glimpses of it in this book, but in my opinion, it's not really a maturity issue; Lara Jean is just naive. That naivety is what makes her a fun character to read about. It's truly a journey because you're experiencing everything in Lara Jean's life through an innocent person's eyes. She hasn't really had her heart broken, and she hasn't experienced a lot of things because she's protected herself. I can't say enough about how much I love Ms. Han for bringing Lara Jean into the world of YA. She's an incredible character.
I loved the plot of this book. It wasn't too much for a YA romance, but it was still wholly satisfying. It picks up right where To All the Boys I've Loved Before left off, and right away, things get started. Han doesn't really dilly-daddle around when it comes to fixing what happened at the Christmas party. She gets right to her point, and then she starts bringing in the more important pieces to the puzzle. For a book with a love triangle (I know, I know... some of you really hate them!), this one is realistic. Han doesn't have either character in the central relationship really deviate in a bad way. Things just happen very realistically.
The one thing that did bother me about P.S. I Still Love You was the amount of typos. I don't know if this one was rushed through the publication process, but it could have used another once-over by an editor. Some of the errors had me rereading sections just to make sure that I read it right or so that I could understand the meaning. They didn't really take away from the meaning of the book, but the errors did interrupt the flow.
P.S. I Still Love You is another wonderful book by Ms. Han. If you've already read and enjoyed To All the Boys I've Loved Before and haven't picked this one up yet, do so now! You'll be just as entranced as you were with the first one. If you have not read the first one, but stuck around to read this review, give this little series a chance. The books are cute and adorable, but they're not as fluffy as you might think.
