What I'm Waiting On...
Author: Kara Thomas
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Publication Date: April 19, 2016
The Darkest Corners is a psychological thriller about the lies little girls tell, and the deadly truths those lies become.
There are ghosts around every corner in Fayette, Pennsylvania. Tessa left when she was nine and has been trying ever since not to think about it after what happened there that last summer. Memories of things so dark will burn themselves into your mind if you let them.
Callie never left. She moved to another house, so she doesn’t have to walk those same halls, but then Callie always was the stronger one. She can handle staring into the faces of her demons—and if she parties hard enough, maybe one day they’ll disappear for good.
Tessa and Callie have never talked about what they saw that night. After the trial, Callie drifted and Tessa moved, and childhood friends just have a way of losing touch.
But ever since she left, Tessa has had questions. Things have never quite added up. And now she has to go back to Fayette—to Wyatt Stokes, sitting on death row; to Lori Cawley, Callie’s dead cousin; and to the one other person who may be hiding the truth.
Only the closer Tessa gets to the truth, the closer she gets to a killer—and this time, it won’t be so easy to run away.
Why I'm Waiting...
I'm not usually the girl to go for a psychological thriller. That genre just isn't one of the ones that I normally read. However, there have been a few that I've read and enjoyed, so I like to check in on Goodreads and the Internet from time to time to see if any psychological thrillers look like they might be a hit. The Darkest Corners by Kara Thomas looks like it will be that book for me for a few different reasons.
The first reason for me wanting to read this book is a little selfish and biased of me. The Darkest Corners is set near my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Like many other readers, I love seeing familiar places in literature and I knew that I was going to read this book no matter what just because of the setting.
Secondly, look at that synopsis! The book is about lies, murder, and a murderer who has been named the "Ohio River Monster." This book has the makings for something that will entertain readers but also make them think about how the judicial system works. I'm in!
Now I kind of cheated and started reading a preview of this yesterday, but I'm loving it so far. I went ahead and requested it on NetGalley, but I'm totally ordering this book and reading it as soon as possible.
